Eagle Scout Project Description
Matthew Adamczyk - Eagle Scout Project
My project is to improve the
grounds surrounding Cranbrook's "Senior Cabin", on the
Rouge River. This is a two story, predominately wood building, which
serves as a social
gathering site. It is used approximately once a month for sports team
banquets, school
wide homecomming parties and various other activities. The state of
the grounds
surrounding the cabin is one of neglect. Frequent vehicle traffic has
left large barren
patches in the lawn. Brush and trees surround the structure, making
passage around the
perimeter impossible in places, not to mention being a fire hazard.
The soil around the
foundation has eroded (in some places, up to a foot), and the adjoining
river bank has
likewise eroded in places. The present fire ring is poorly defined
and evidence of previous
burn sites is obvious. Through this project, I will establish an official
fire pit, re-inforce the
soil around the foundation of the cabin as well as stabilize the riverbank.
The overgrown
branches will be cut back, and the barren patches in the lawn surrounding
the cabin will be
re-turfed. My start date is to be August 29, 2000; the official end
date of the project will
be September 23, 2000.
